The principle tanning agent used in all self-tanning formulas is dihydroxyacetone (DHA). This ingredient does not produce a “real tan” by increasing the skin’s melanin levels, rather it creates a tanned appearance by developing a brown color on the surface of the skin .The action of DHA is limited to the upper layer of the skin and involves a reaction between DHA and skin proteins and oxygen that produces brown compounds. This process is similar to what occurs when you slice open an apple and the surface of the apple browns when it’s exposed to the oxygen in the air. The development of color takes anywhere from 2 to 4 hours and the intensity of color is dependent upon the DHA concentration in the product as well as each tanner’s individual skin characteristics. The color developed by the DHA usually lasts 5 to 7 days and begins to fade as the top layer of the skin naturally exfoliates.
With proper skin prep, and aftercare, your spray tan will last 5-10 days. Certain activities such as sweating, swimming, and shaving will shorten the life of the tan. Proper exfoliation and moisturizing is key to the longevity of your spray tan.
It is recommended to get your spray tan 1-2 days before an event.
Before your initial rinse the cosmetic bronzer can transfer to clothing and other items. Once you do your first rinse you do not have to worry about color transfer. You should wear dark loose clothing after your spray tan until your first rinse.
It is completely up to you and whatever your comfort level is. You can go nude or wear underwear. Keep in mind the spray tan will make tan lines. We also offer disposable thongs to wear during your spray tan session.
Most spray tan sessions last 15 minutes.
Absolutely! However swimming can cause the spray tan to fade quicker. We recommend using our tan extending lotion, to replenish any color lost due to swimming.
No. Spray tans contain no SPF, you can still tan and even burn, so a sunscreen is still needed. Avoid using aerosol sunscreens, they contain alcohol and will strip the tan.
It is suggested to not spray tan with a sunburn. The spray tan is only on the top layer of skin. Once the sunburn peels, the spray tan will come off in that area, leaving an uneven patchy look.
Yes! But please double check with your physician (we’re not the doctors). We use a nontoxic, food grade product. The spray tan rests within the outer most layer of skin. We also have ventilation in the room and offer nose filters for your use.
No. We wipe the nails after spray tan application to prevent staining.
Exfoliation is key! Make sure the skin is completely exfoliated of all dead skin and sunless tanner.
Keep skin hydrated on the inside and out. Drink plenty of water & use unscented moisturizers.
